Thanks Keith, I'll have to get hold of the book. Though I imagine it will just fuel the angst. Bless you.

Hi Phil,

It's so frustrating that so many people including pastors think it's all about Sunday morning. I've just read Skye Jethani's book "The Divine Commodity" which is all about how the dominant culture of consumerism plays out in church life. An excellent critique of the performance approach and giving people what they think they want in order to attract people.

Hello Paul. Thanks for your comment. I don't believe however that a study of civilizations would show any as having a natural propensity to live in harmony. As you suggested they have all learned to police themselves in order to survive. However, remove the laws and we will all revert to savages. Jesus saw that the me-centred heart of all men needed a radical change. The society he came to create is not in the end reliant on laws but on freely given, self-sacrificing love. Pockets of such a lifestyle exist through out the world but a day is coming when it will be the norm. Then every race will know what it is to be 'noble'.

"With out the revelation that came to us through Jesus we would all be tearing each other apart with no hope."

This is a nonsense. People lived together without tearing each other apart before Christianity or Judiasm. Think about it: if a group of people included any that killed an mained at will, the others would stand up against them. Police themselves and learn to live together.
